Career Exploration & Services

We are here to get you career ready and future ready

Career success does not happen by accident. All UW universities have a career services office that helps students and alumni explore options, gain experience, and take steps to achieve their educational and career goals.

Engage With Career Services Early and Often

Career services staff can help you:

  • Explore careers connected to your academic interests
  • Assess and develop career-ready skills
  • Find internships and job opportunities
  • Create résumés and cover letters that stand out
  • Prepare for career fairs, interviews, and networking events
  • Apply to graduate school
  • Connect with employers and alumni

Additionally, career services offices across the Universities of Wisconsin regularly host job fairs and career-readiness programs on campus, all free of charge.

Do not wait until senior year to think about your future. The earlier you connect with your campus career services team, the more options you will have and the more prepared you will be.

  1. The more you explore, the more you will understand what employers are looking for—and the better positioned you will be to take the next step.
  2. The more you know about the job market, the better prepared you will be to enter it.
  3. The more career-ready skills and experiences you have, the more appealing you will be to potential employers.

How Do I Find a Major or Career That Is Right for Me?

Choosing an academic path to fit your interests and abilities is not always easy, especially when some careers do not seem directly linked to undergraduate majors. Career services and academic advising staff can help you if you are unsure about what major or career path to pursue.

In addition, UW offers tools like the MyMajors self-assessment to help you explore your options or confirm the major or career you are considering.

Try the MyMajors Self-Assessment. It only takes 10-15 minutes to complete:

  1. Create an account.
  2. Answer questions about your skills, academic achievements, interests, and preferences.
  3. Once completed, you will learn which majors, careers, and UW universities are a good fit for you.

Discover Where Your Degree Can Take You

Ever wonder where a degree from a UW university can take you? Every year, recent graduates share what they are doing next—from jobs and salaries to grad school plans. It is called the First Destination Survey, and it can give you real insight into what is possible with your degree.
